The word dementia describes a variety of symptoms that may include difficulties with memory, thinking, problem solving and language, as well as changes in mood and personality. There are many different types of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease being the most common one. If you are concerned about someone because of memory problems or changes in their behaviour or mood, the first person to contact is their GP who will determine whether the person needs to be referred to Lewisham Memory Services for a possible diagnosis. Maggie has been volunteering for Carers Lewisham for over a year and has recently secured a part time role as a Carers Support Officer working with people with Dementia. She is energetic and very passionate about helping people. She has a great interest in Dementia and supporting Carers through their journey with their cared for person. Ann

Ann is delighted to share the role of Carers Support Officer (Dementia) with her colleague Maggie. Previously, Ann spent much of her working life in the Arts, and was one of the first ever women to join The Magic Circle. She decided to change her career path after becoming a dementia carer herself. As a trained NLP Practitioner and Life Coach she is a great believer in holistic health, as well as the practice of Mindfulness. Ann also teaches movement/dance to people with dementia.

Carers Week 6th -12th June 2016

Carers Lewisham will be holding an event for all carers on Wednesday 8th June 2016 10:00am to 3:00pm at the *Irish Community Centre, 2A Davenport Road, Catford, SE6 2AZ. There will be community stalls offering advice and information throughout the day.
