Challenge 25

Get involved and help raise money for carers in your community

This year we are celebrating our 25th birthday and so we wanted to do something special, not only to raise money but to raise awareness about the work that we do. This is why we have launched Challenge 25 – a scheme that will involve the whole community: businesses, schools and individuals.

We are challenging local schools and businesses to each raise £250, and individuals to raise at least £25 by holding fundraising activities on October 25th to help Young and Adult Carers living in Lewisham.

We currently provide support for over 5,300 carers in the borough of Lewisham. They range from just 5 years old to over 100! But, according to the latest census, there are 21,500 carers living in Lewisham which is why it’s so important for us to ensure that all carers in the borough know about us and receive the support they need.

We have declared 25th October 2013 Carers Challenge 25 Day and we would be really grateful if you could help us on that day by holding a fundraising activity with your staff or clients.

Here are some ideas for raising money:

Office workers – hold a dress-down or dress-up day
Teachers – have a cake sale
Cafes – sell our Carers Lewisham wristbands
Shops – donate a percentage of your takings that day to Carers Lewisham
Pubs – ask your customers to “buy a drink” for us and match their donation
Any amount raised will be greatly appreciated and will help carers in so many ways. This is how far your donation can go:

£25 will pay for 5 information packs full of useful advice and information for new carers
£50 will pay for an annual subscription to the Carers Lewisham newsletter for 5 carers – this keeps them informed about their rights, changes in the law and services available to them
£100 will provide a fun day out and an essential respite for up to 8 Young Carers
£150 will give a carer 10 hours of respite through our sitting service, so they can enjoy some ‘me time’
£200 will fund a relaxation activity such as massage for 12 carers
£250 will allow a Young Carer and their family to enjoy a 4 night residential break
Remember that any event or activity you hold will not only raise vital funds for Carers Lewisham, but also awareness about carers and caring issues. Your business can also benefit through tax deductions and improving your image with the local community by letting them know you care.

So please let us know if you would like to join in and we will support you all the way with materials and advice to make the most of your activity. Just give Tia a call at the Carers Centre or email to request your fundraising pack, with stickers, ‘Who’s the Carer? game, posters and loads of ideas to help you with your activity.

Good luck, have fun and don’t forget to let us know what you have planned!
