UK Power Networks is the electricity distribution network operator covering your area and The Priority Service Register is a free service they provide to vulnerable people who may need extra support during a power cut. This includes households with residents who are elderly, disabled, chronically ill, visually impaired or blind, individuals who have a hearing impairment or are deaf or those that rely on medical equipment.
During a power cut, households who’ve signed up to the Priority Service Register will receive a priority number to call, regular text message or phone updates and, in emergencies, extra support including British Red Cross intervention if necessary. Registered households will also receive a welcome pack with useful advice about preparing for a power cut.
Carers can apply on behalf of their care for person/s online at www.ukpowernetworks/prioirty, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or they can call the Freephone number 0800 31 63 105 (0333 32 32 105 from a mobile). Carers who have used the telephone helpline have found it really useful because staff have also suggested other benefits, including the warm home discount that they may be eligible for.
