We all know the importance of staying or being healthy hence why the London Borough of Lewisham is currently working with local businesses, schools, children’s centres, hospitals and other organisations to promote healthier, lower-sugar alternatives to help us to reduce the increased health risks associated with consuming high levels of sugar.
To keep our carers healthy Carers Lewisham has joined the Sugar Smart campaign and has signed up to the Healthy Workplace Charter.
From 1st March 2018, Carers Lewisham is going Sugar Smart as consuming too much food and drink that is high in sugar is causing high levels of tooth decay, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
As a charity we are making the following pledges in regards to:
- Healthier Drinks: From March 2018, we will be asking our users (staff, volunteers, carers and the general public) not to bring fizzy or high sugar drinks on to the site. We do have free drinking water available, in addition to tea and coffee - Read more
- Healthier Food: From March 2018, we will no longer be providing sweet biscuits to our volunteers or carers when they attend courses, activities and events. Instead we will aim to provide fruit and nuts, wherever possible. Tea, coffee and water will still be provided.
- Adverts, Promotions and Sponsorship: From March 2018, we will provide information on healthy food and drink, e.g. posters, flyers, training. We will explain the Sugar Smart campaign to promote healthier, lower sugar options.
