Young Carers in Schools programme is an exciting England-wide initiative that makes it as easy as possible for schools to support young carers and awards good practice. The programme is run jointly by the Carers Trust and The Children’s Society Young Carers in Focus partners.
The Carers Trust in association with Carers Lewisham ran a Young Carers in Schools event which took place on 20th October at Sydenham School. The event covered information and a breakdown on the programme including:
- Ofsted’s approach to Young Carers
- Young Carer’s new legal rights and what these mean for schools
- A breakdown of the award criteria
- Practical step-by-step examples of how to increase identification and improve outcomes for Young Carers.
- Interactive videos and a case study from a Young Adult Carer
The event was organised for different professionals to engage with especially those who work in schools across the borough. In total eight schools attended the event along with professionals from Lewisham Council and the Young Carers Social Worker.
We received really positive feedback from attendees, below are a few quotes taken from the evaluation forms.
